After experiencing one of the longest periods on record of sustained gains without a pullback, the stock market is (finally) taking a pause. While short-term volatility can cause stress for long-term investors, we believe periods such as these are healthy in the context of a longer bull market. Interestingly, this retreat was sparked, in part, by things being too good in the economy (refreshing, right?) as opposed to the bad news that typically precedes such events. Increasing wages and the resulting impact on inflation and interest rates have led some to believe the economy is improving faster than it should.
